Aruna Lama

Biography

Aruna Lama was born on September 9, 1945 at Ghoom Pahar, Darjeeling, India to Surya Bahadur Lama and Sanmaya Lama. Her uncle C.B. Lama inspired her to sing from the age of 7. She won a music competition organized by the Gorkha Dukha Niwarak Sammelan (GDNS) in 1956 at the age of 11 and then she never looked back. Amber Gurung, one of the stalwarts of Nepali music, groomed her in singing from 1958. Aruna Lama did her schooling at Mungpoo Primary School, Jalpahar, and St. Teresa’s School, Darjeeling. She completed her graduate degree in arts from Darjeeling Government College. In 1963, Aruna Lama married Saran Pradhan, another Nepali musician. In 1974, her husband died and she was left with her two children. She worked hard to raise them, working as an assistant teacher in St. Alphonsus School (1965) and finally found work at the Scheduled Castes and Tribes Welfare Office in Darjeeling where she worked till 1998. She continued to sing even with all her struggles till the end of her life.

एक पटक राजा त्रिभुवनले साहेबज्यू रणविक्रम शाहसमक्ष मुख फोरेका थिए- ‘ए दाइ ! खड्गमान सिंहलाई हजुरकी छोरी दिनुपर्‍यो।’ राजाका कुरा सुनेर शाह छक्कै परे। ती सम्बादले उनी कति छक्क परे भने तीन छक्क परे। जीवनमा उनले त्यस्तो उल्का कुरा सुनेको त्यही पहिलो चोटि थियो। त्यो कुरा पनि राजैबाट सुन्दा उनी छाँगाबाट खसेसरि थिए।

प्रचण्ड गोर्खाका संस्थापक खड्गमान सिंहलाई राणाले खोरभित्रै चरा राख्नेजस्तै ठूलो पिँजडामा २० वर्ष राखेका थिए। तर २००७ सालको जनक्रान्तिले उनी पनि जेल मुक्त भएका थिए । भरखरै जेलबाट निस्केकाले हिंड्दा उनका पाइला टुङ्गामा नटेकिंदा उनी घरिघरि बतासिन्थे। अनि त्रिभुवनले विहेको कुरा चलाएताक अर्थात् २००८ साल मङ्सिर १ गते उनी मन्त्रीमा आसिन थिए।

स्वर किन्नरी तारादेवी:

नेपाली महिला गायनमा सर्वाधिक रुचाइएकी गायिका हुन् तारादेवी । उनले गाएका अधिकांश गीतहरु श्रोताको ढुकढुकी छुन सफल छन् । मनै हर्ने कर्णप्रिय आवाजका कारण सम्पूर्ण नेपाली श्रोताहरुले उनलाई स्वर किन्नरीको उपाधिले सम्मानित गरिसकेका छन् । आफ्नो मनको सिंहाशनमा सजाएर राखेका छन् ।

वि.सं. २००२ साल माघ २ गतेको मुटु कमाउने जाडोले सारा काठमाडौँबासी दिक्क मानिरहेका थिए । तर इन्द्रचोकमा सामान्य पानपसल गरी जीवनयापन गरिरहेका कृष्णबहादुर कार्की र राधादेवी कार्कीका लागि भने यो दिन विशेष दिन थियो । कारण यही दिन उनीहरुको घरमा तारादेवीले पहिलो सन्तानको रुपमा जन्म लिएकी थिइन् । उनीपछि कार्की परिवारमा भाई शम्भु र बहिनी बिनु थपिए । बिस्तारै तारादेवी बढ्दै गइन् । बाल स्वभावअनुरुप टोलका अन्य बच्चाहरुसँग खेलेर समय बिताउन थालिन् ।

Pushpa Basnet (Nepali: पुष्पा बस्नेत ) is a social worker and the Founder/President of Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) and Butterfly Home, non profit organizations, in Kathmandu, Nepal. She and her organization work to strengthen the rights of children living behind bars with their incarcerated parents.

Her efforts have been recognized by the National and International Media, since she was nominated for the CNN Heroes Award 2012.

Basnet started her career at the age of 21, while she was studying Social Work in the college. While visiting the women prison in Kathmandu, as a part of college assignment, she was dismayed at seeing the conditions of children living with their parents behind bars. She raised 70,000 rupees (roughly $885) from her close friends and sister, and started a non-profit organization -The Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC), to provide a day care program to the children, in 2005.

Parijat

Parijat(BS 1915-2049)

Parijat was born in 1937 at the hill station of Darjeeling. Parijat, played an important and well- appreciated role in strengthening Nepalese literature. She completed part of her schooling in Darjeeling, she came to the Kathmandu Valley in 1954.

Ram Kumari Jhakri is the President of All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU). Ram Kumari Jhakri ran for the presidential election of ANNFSU, a student wing of the Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist Leninist), CPN (UML), in its 19th National Conference in Pokhara in September 2008. After a keen competition with a male candidate she came out as a victor. She rewrote the history of Nepali politics by becoming the first woman president of any student organization in the country.

Jhamak Kumari Ghimire

Jhamak Kumari Ghimire, born in July 1980 in Kachide village development of Dhankuta district is a Nepalese writer. She was born with severe disability that has prevented her from using her arms, and suffers from limited movement of her body and slurred speech called cerebral palsy and writes with her left foot. can hear but not speak and has limited eye sight. Ghimire also wears glasses because she has myopia, or nearsightedness. Her disability, however, hasn’t prevented her from expressing her acerbic, poetic humour freely ? through her left foot.Using her toes to write, she trod into the Nepali literature with the start of new millennium at the age of 19.
